Eleine Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Madeleine: Since the recording we went out on tour with W.A.S.P during the fall of 2017, played some headline shows and we had the great honor to play at Loud ’n Metal Festival in Tokyo, Japan. It was our first time ever in Japan and it was amazing. We can’t wait to come back. Besides that, we put all our focus in music videos and promotion our new album.

Now we have some shows in Sweden and we are booking our tour for 2018. We are very happy to say that we’re going on a small tour with Arch Enemy. It’s huge for us.

2.You have a new album coming out during the end of February, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Madeleine: The sound of ”Until The End” is very monumental, heavy and melodic. Comparing it to our debut album this album is heavier, more metal and the quality of our symphonic arrangements are much better. We teamed up with Daniel Beijbom who is awesome at symphonic arrangements and we are very proud of the result. It feels great to have produced an album ourselves this time around.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

Rikard: The topics are all connected within ”Until The End”. Topics such as: Living your life to the fullest, opening your eyes and realizing that there are people in great pain although you yourself are safe, that there are bad people in the world but far from every one is a bad person, breaking free from what is holding you down and that together we are strong.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Eleine'?

Madeleine: I started the band just knowing that it was going to be some kind of symphonic metal band, so I cut off the Mad-part of my name and left was ELEINE. I wanted to keep it simple and easy to remember.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Madeleine: We have had so many amazing shows so it’s hard to just pick a few, but I remember we had a magical evening in Athens, Greece during our tour with Moonspell, and Tokyo is something we will never forget.

Regarding my stage performance, I only know it from my kind of view, hehe. But I know that I express a lot of emotions on stage, and that I like to combine it with both headbang and more smooth movements.
Eleine in its entierty aims to give the audience a theatrical show that is very majestic both musically and visually.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

Madeleine: Yes we have! We book 2018/2019 now, and this far we have a lot of fun shows coming up. As we mentioned we have the honor to go with Arch Enemy on a small tour, and we are really looking forward to Sabaton Open Air this august. It will be epic. We always tell our fans and followers to make sure they follow us on Facebook and Bandsintown. There you’ll get notifications every time we release a new showdate! J

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the album being released by 2 different labels?

Madeleine: Ah yes, the tale of two labels haha. When we parted with our old label we knew what we wanted. We started our own record label named Algoth Records during 2017, and when we got in touch with Black Lodge we all decided that we should collaborate. They also have the well-known distribution company Sound Pollution that we work with and distribute through.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of symphonic metal?

Madeleine: It’s been amazing. I feel very humble about it. You know that.. when creating music, we create the music that we like. What feels natural. We never think about what some certain listeners might like, we don’t try to adjust to trends. We want to give our fans OUR music, that’s why they follow us – right? So when making new music you never know what people will think about it, I never know what to expect. So I must say that the feedback from both fans and critics has been overwhelming. I’m very flattered, happy and so grateful for all this great feedback.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Madeleine: Not that I know of. But a collaboration with other bands would be fun to do some day! I mean, to sing on a track with Alissa from Arch Enemy or for someone in Eleine to do a guest appearence with…I don’t know….Metallica would be out of this world haha. But I’m getting way ahead of myself there. A girl can dream can’t she?

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Rikard: It’s hard to say where we’ll end up. The progression from our debut album ”Eleine” to our second album ”Until The End” has been natural although there is major growth both within writing and performance. We’ve had a vision from the very beginning, so I’m sure that creating our 3rd album will be challenging, interesting and a pleasaure.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Rikard: Well, we don’t look towards styles and other artist when it comes to sound. We draw inspiration from how music feels and aim for our music too feel a certain way as well. With that said, there are so many bands and artists that we enjoy listening to.
Madeleine: Yes, and I personally listen to bands like Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, Rammstein and so on. But we also gather inspiration from experiences, both others and our own.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Madeleine: I enjoy a lot of things! But let me make a short list for you here. I like: Working out, hanging out with friends and family, show love towards animals and engaging myself in aminal rights, planing and doing photo shoots with Rikard.. and Netflix-ing. I enjoy movies, but that is directly connected to my musical interests since it inspires me so much! J

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Madeleine: First of all want to say thank you for this interview, it’s been great. Everyone in Eleine also want to thank all our beautiful fans, for listening, buying and spreading our music. You support this industry with a big heart and we are so grateful to every one of you. Thank you! J
